چکیده
This document provides specifications of the estimators used in Subroutine 1, along with a formal proof of Lemma 1. 1. Specification of Estimators Following (Hanneke, 2009; 2012), we specify the estimators P̂ used in the algorithm as follows. For convenience, we suppose we have access to two independent sequences W1 = {w1, w2, . . .} and W2 = {w′ 1, w 2, . . .} of independent Ddistributed random variables, with (W1,W2) independent of Z . Such sequences could easily be taken from the unlabeled data sequence in a preprocessing step, in which case we interpret the {Xi}i=1 sequence referenced in the algorithms as those points remaining in the pool after extracting the sequences W1 and W2. Fix any H ⊆ C and m ∈ N. For any k ∈ N, define S(H) = {S ∈ X k−1 : H shatters S}. For any (x, y) ∈ X × {−1,+1}, define Γ̂ m (x, y,W2,H) = 1⋂ h∈H{h(x)} (y) and ∆̂ m (x,W2,H) = 1S1(H)(x). For any k ∈ {2, . . . , d+ 1}, ∀i ∈ N, let S (k) i = {w 1+(i−1)(k−1), . . . , w i(k−1)}; then let M (k) m (H) = max

Activized Learning with Uniform Classification Noise
We prove that for any VC class, it is possible to transform any passive learning algorithm into an active learning algorithm with strong asymptotic improvements in label complexity for every nontrivial distribution satisfying a uniform classification noise condition. This generalizes a similar result proven by [Han09] for the realizable case, and is the first result establishing that such gener...
متن کاملActivized Learning: Transforming Passive to Active with Improved Label Complexity
We study the theoretical advantages of active learning over passive learning. Specifically, we prove that, in noise-free classifier learning for VC classes, any passive learning algorithm can be transformed into an active learning algorithm with asymptotically strictly superior label complexity for all nontrivial target functions and distributions. We further provide a general characterization ...

We study the theoretical advantages of active learning over passive learning. Specifically, we prove that, in noise-free classifier learning for VC classes, any passive learning algorithm can be transformed into an active learning algorithm with asymptotically strictly superior label complexity for all nontrivial target functions and distributions, in many cases without significant loss in comp...
متن کاملA Theoretical Analysis of Metric Hypothesis Transfer Learning Supplementary Material
This supplementary material is organised into three parts. In the first two parts we respectively state the proofs of the onaverage and uniform stability analysis. In the last part, we show that the specific loss presented in the paper is k-lipschitz. For the sake of readability we start by recalling our setting. Let T be a training set drawn from a distribution DT over X × Y . We consider the ...
متن کاملLearning Proximal Operators: Using Denoising Networks for Regularizing Inverse Imaging Problems Supplementary Material
The supplementary material contains the proof of Remark 3.1 as well as some additional information about the numerical experiments that contribute to the understanding of the main paper. We present detailed qualitative and quantitative evaluation results for each of our two (demosaicking and deconvolution) exemplary linear inverse image reconstruction problems. These results include parameter v...
